Telemechanique has launched of the latest addition to its Altivar range of variable speed drives (VSDs) - the ATV32 joins the latest generation of the Telemechanque VSDs range and is designed to be fully compatible with the space-saving Lexium 32 motor controllers.

Telemecanique ihas aslo designed a new range of softstarters. The ATS22 is the next generation in softstarters, complimenting the ATV32, it is full of plug and play features.

These have been designed for advanced mid-range machines, the Altivar 32 range covers asynchronous and synchronous motors from 0.18kW to 15kW. A great feature is the sleek thin book style of models up to 4kW. Models up to 1.5kW represent a industry 1st with a body width of just 45mm offering the smallest size on the market. At this size, side-by-side mounting can mean a reduction in enclosure size of up to 40 per cent or enable more drives to be fitted into the same space.

Packed into the unit is 150 application-specific functions, easy programmable control system functions and embedded machine safety features, these include safe torque off, safe limited speed and safe stop, which make the ATV32 particularly suitable for all cutting processes plus applications in the wood and metal industries.

Control features include Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity through Telemecanique's SoMove software suite, enabling remote configuration and control.

Offering open communications, the ATV32 also has embedded CANopen and Modbus and can communicate to with most industrial networks for detailed & automated applications. At the same time its embedded ATV Logic makes it suitable for stand-alone applications.

A broad range of configuration options are available. With a simple loader, which has a copy and paste tool, the drive can be configured with power on. With a multi-loader, the operator can click and configure the drive with the power off. The SoMove software eliminates the requirement for a PC and all of the setup data can be stored on an SD card. HMI (human/machine interface) options include remote terminal or a simple-to-use drive navigator with a large clear display.

Launching alongside the ATV 32, the new ATS 22 is a range of user friendly soft starters. They all incorporate an embedded shorting contactor, meaning fewer components, less cabling and an overall smaller size, they offer true three phase control. The products offer a wide power range and all benefit from a new HMI design with the ‘simply start’ concept, which allows 10 basic parameters for adjustment and then simply press start. (A second level of parameters is available for advance fine-tuning).

Other benefits of this next generation in softstarter technology include full starter and motor protections, Fieldbus communication, as well as being Modbus and CANopen embedded. They have an identical navigation to ATS 48 but incorporate a simpler display, with a reduced number of keys and an easy to use diagnostic function, LED for current status, a trip history and selectable values to monitor.

Telemecanique's drives product manager, says: “The response to field trials of the ATV32 has been overwhelming with many respondents claiming ‘it represents a real breakthrough’. In terms of book size, safety and modularity, it was seen as a very competitive and impressive product.

“For many years Schneider Electric has continued to keep pushing the boundaries of what technology is capable of and with the Altivar 32 we know that it will be a real industry driver and represents something very different for the market.”

The new Telemecanique ATV32 Variable Speed Drives also works seamlessly with the company’s new Lexium 32 servo drive. The Lexium 32 range has been developed to meet OEM architectures, with advanced tuning features and motors with a wide machine inertia of up to 20:1 mismatch.
