With the growing value of control equipment in industrial, commercial and private buildings the need for effective surge protection has never been greater.

From lightning strikes causing extreme surge voltages to those from switching operations electrical equipment is continually stressed.

BS7671:2008 Amendment 1, the new 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, has now been fully introduced. With changes to existing sections, introduction of new sections and inclusion of BS62305 and BS61643. At Weidmüller we aim to clarify and ease selection of products to meet the new standards with our own training seminars and comprehensive product portfolio, designed to help ensure your installation or project meets all aspects of these new changes.

This course discusses Surge Protection and in particular provides an understanding of BS7671:2008 Amendment 1. The main aim of the course is to provide the delegate with enough information to confidently select their own or

interface with end customers with respect to the selection of the correct surge protection devices to suit a range

of applications.

Training Topics:

Regulations

A short presentation, which includes BS7671:2008 section 443 and BS7671:2008 amendment 1 section 534.

As well as, BS61643 SPD testing and BS62305:2008 Protection of Personnel, Structures and Systems.

Overview of the different aspects:

An overview to transient over voltages, their common causes, high level information on BS62305 zonal concepts

and an explanation of the questions which you should be asking on every design, install and commission.

Installation to Services

A run through of different installation examples, to include buildings with and without Lightning Protection, and the

subsequent levels of surge protection within.
