Kiepe SWB Standstill Monitor\r\n\r\n\r\na p p l i c a t i o n\r\n\r\nThese robust units are designed to detect shaft rotation, stoppage\r\nor reversal and have applications in all industries employing\r\nrotating machinery.\r\nTheir high reliability and negligible maintenance requirements\r\nmake them especially suited to materials handling systems in\r\ncontinously operating plants.\r\n\r\no p e r a t i o n\r\n\r\nThe rotation sensor incorporates a magnetic slip coupling which\r\ninduces rotation in a further magnet enclosed in a liquid filled\r\ncapsule. This carries the contact operating pin. As the shaft\r\nrotates, the operating pin moves one or the other contact depending\r\nupon the direction of rotation.\r\nThe exact point of contact operation depends upon the selection\r\nof magnetic and fluid couplings and the adjustment of contact\r\nspring pressure.\r\nIncrease of speed above the operating point causes the magnetic\r\nand fluid couplings to „slip” without reducing contact pressures.\r\nThis makes the unit suitable for low speed detection and high\r\nspeed continous operation without damage.\r\nRotation sensors are suitable for direct drive from rotating shafts.\r\nHowever, they must not be subject to end thrust or excessive\r\nvibration. The three couplings shown in this leaflet are especially\r\nrecommended to cater for shaft misalignment and also to simplify\r\ninstallation.\r\nWhere direct drive is not possible the sensors may be driven by\r\nbelt or chain drive; in this case the heavy duty bearing version\r\nshould be used to cater for the additional side thrust.\r\nFor conveyors the belt drive unit type „B” may be used. This is\r\ndriven by a plastic roller in direct contact with a rubber or textile\r\nbelt.
